When we started designing the XR Spherical Helmet, we wanted it to do everything - from cyclocross, long-distance touring, to local KOMs during a quick ride with friends. With the Falcon XR MIPS model, we chose the same approach. We have incorporated a similar design and features as the Fidlock buckle and Ionic+ antibacterial padding into a more economical version. Falcon XR is equipped with MIPS technology integrated into the retention system.

MIPS IS MOVEMENT ADVANCEMENT IN CYCLING HELMET DEVELOPMENT
All Bell helmets are designed to absorb as much energy as possible upon impact and meet the applicable European standard: EN 1078. The goal of the new MIPS technology is to eliminate rotational forces that act on the head in the event of a fall. Upon impact at any angle, the MIPS system allows the EPS shell of the helmet to rotate independently around the rider's head. Although this movement is only on the order of a few millimeters, we believe that MIPS technology significantly reduces the amount of rotational force that would otherwise be transferred to the brain.
WHAT IS MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System) and how does it work?
MIPS is a slippery insert between the EPS shell (the body of the helmet) and the internal padding. In the event of an angled impact (for example, when you catch your head on a branch), the EPS shell of the helmet rotates a few millimeters over the MIPS layer, thus protecting the head and brain from a sharp rotational jerk.
