Running shoes for soft trail have their own specifics that need to be taken into account when choosing. The stiffer upper, mostly made of polyurethane materials, is less comfortable, but you will appreciate it in wet terrain, especially with much better non-absorption than textile uppers. These combined PU uppers are also much stronger, so they do not stretch in wet and rugged terrain and the foot is better fixed in the shoe. Of course there is such a deeper pattern - grip and lower foot position - better reading of the terrain.
